Programs at Hunter Mill

Primary Program

Our Montessori Primary program, designed for children ages 3 to 6 years, offers a carefully prepared, child-centered environment that fosters independence, concentration, problem-solving abilities, self-confidence, and respect for others. Academic concepts are introduced through concrete, sensory-rich materials that lay the foundation for abstract thinking.

Children remain with the same teacher for three years, building a unique bond that goes beyond traditional classrooms. This allows our teachers to truly understand each child’s learning style, strengths, and challenges, thus allowing for a more personalized and effective education.

As they progress through the program and enter their kindergarten year, children take on leadership roles in the classroom, gain mastery of the materials, and develop confidence and a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Toddler Program

Our Toddler Program, designed for children 16 mos. - 3 years, is grounded in the understanding that from birth to age 3, a child’s brain develops more rapidly than at any other time in life. At Hunter Mill Montessori, we recognize the significance of these formative years and embrace the idea that meaningful learning can—and should—begin early. In our toddler classrooms, children are cared for by warm, attentive, and experienced teachers who are specially trained to support this unique stage of development. Our peaceful, thoughtfully prepared environments offer safety, consistency, and rich opportunities for exploration. Here, your child’s natural curiosity, drive for independence, and love of learning are supported and celebrated every step of the way.

Schedule options include:

  • Half-day 9:00am-12:00pm
  • Extended Day 8:30pm - 4:30pm

Summer Camp

Summer Camp at Hunter Mill Montessori runs for six weeks and is available for primary students, ages 3-6 only. We do not currently offer summer camp at our Toddler location.

We maintain the same high Montessori standards as during the school year, while adding weekly themes and special events for extra summer fun! Registration is flexible—you may sign up by the week and do not need to attend all six weeks.

When it came to choosing a preschool for my grandson, we could think of no more perfect place than the sylvan setting of Hunter Mill Montessori. At Hunter MIll Montessori, parents and grandparents alike can see students expand their horizons as they learn academics, social skills and independence. We couldn't be more pleased!

Our family chose HMMS not only because it was recommended by all of our neighbors (and we have a lots of them) but once you step into the school, you can feel the warmth of the school community and its teachers. Our three sons attended HMMS and have far exceeded our expectations, socially, and educationally.

The Woltz Family

Both of our kids went through the full program including Kindergarten and we could not have been happier with it. The kids loved school and Mrs. Cook and the rest of the teaching staff were engaged, responsive, and so clearly cared about all the kids.

We chose [the school] nearly decade ago after touring many other local schools. We found its student/teacher ratio, cleanliness and educational program to be the best fit for our three children. As a working parent, I wanted a place where my child safe and cared for, while learning in an environment that met each of their different needs.

Holly Brook Montessori School was an incredible experience for our son. He is ahead in math in elementary school, has great social skills, and is very respectful to his teachers. I give all of this credit to HB for helping to make him a well-rounded individual. Can't wait for our second to attend.

We were part of the Holly Brook family for 6 years. Our boys learned so many useful skills from math, reading, independence, and public speaking that set them up for success. One of the reasons we picked the school was due to how well they welcome international families and how open they are to learn about other cultures and traditions and incorporate them into their curriculum. We highly recommend this preschool, you will not regret it. - Sara
