Refunds and Adjustments

All children are enrolled for the full nine-month school year.  No tuition refund will be made due to illness, vacation or withdrawal.  If the school is given a 60 day written notice of a child leaving school, then tuition is payable through the 60 days. The deposit is non-refundable.

Dismissal Policy

A child may be dismissed at the school’s discretion upon a written notice to the parent for consistent aggressive or disruptive behavior, either physical or verbal by the parent or child.  A child may also be asked to leave if the staff believes the child is not benefiting from our Montessori program.  In this instance, the deposit will be refunded and the tuition prorated according to the time a child was actually enrolled.

Observation and Conference

Observations and conferences may be scheduled at any time by the parent or the teacher.  Formally scheduled conferences are held during late winter to discuss student development.

Trial Period

The first six weeks are considered a trial period for the parents, student and staff.  During that time, the contract may be terminated without any further obligation on the part of either the school or the parent.  The tuition during this period will be prorated for the time the child is actually in attendance.  The deposit is not refundable unless the school dismisses the child.

Parent Activities

Several programs are scheduled for parents throughout the year.  Parent Education Night features a discussion of Montessori theory and the opportunity to ask questions and meet other parents.  A special Father’s Night and Mother’s Night are scheduled later in the year.  All parents are encouraged to contact the school regarding any particular interest or hobby they have which can be shared with the children during class time.

Health Certificate

Health regulations require that each child must have a physician’s certificate of physical examination before they can be admitted to any school.  The certificate should be submitted to the Montessori School of Cedar Lane by August 15.

Attire

Parents are asked to dress their children neatly and simply.  Children will be provided aprons in class when it is necessary to protect their clothing.  Names should be attached to, or marked on, all removable clothing.  Parents are asked to provide the school with a full change of clothing to be kept at the school.

Snacks

All children are served a nutritious mid-morning snack each day.  All-day children are also served an afternoon snack.  Parents may provide refreshments on their child’s birthday if they wish to do so.

Full Day Program Information

Our Full Day Program consists of both before and after school programs that are designed to provide quality care, a pleasant atmosphere and stimulating activities for the children.  Cots, sheets and blankets are provided for naps.  Medicine may be dispensed according to written orders from the child’s doctor.

Children enjoy the great outdoors every day, weather permitting.  Since only rain, extreme cold, or wind interfere with this time, it is important to dress your child accordingly.  Story time, circle games, exercise, dramatic play, music, arts and crafts, and creative free play are all a part of a busy, happy day at our school.

Lunch

Each child brings a boxed lunch.  Emphasis is placed on healthy eating habits, good nutrition and proper table manners.

Snow Policy

For weather emergencies, we will usually follow Fairfax County Public Schools, but will also consider the other jurisdictions that surround us.  Should Fairfax County close schools for the day, we will most likely close as well.  Should Fairfax County open late, we will open at 9:00 (doors will open at 8:45 with no early care).

When it came to choosing a preschool for my grandson, we could think of no more perfect place than the sylvan setting of Hunter Mill Montessori. At Hunter MIll Montessori, parents and grandparents alike can see students expand their horizons as they learn academics, social skills and independence. We couldn't be more pleased!

Our family chose HMMS not only because it was recommended by all of our neighbors (and we have a lots of them) but once you step into the school, you can feel the warmth of the school community and its teachers. Our three sons attended HMMS and have far exceeded our expectations, socially, and educationally.

The Woltz Family

Both of our kids went through the full program including Kindergarten and we could not have been happier with it. The kids loved school and Mrs. Cook and the rest of the teaching staff were engaged, responsive, and so clearly cared about all the kids.

We chose [the school] nearly decade ago after touring many other local schools. We found its student/teacher ratio, cleanliness and educational program to be the best fit for our three children. As a working parent, I wanted a place where my child safe and cared for, while learning in an environment that met each of their different needs.

Holly Brook Montessori School was an incredible experience for our son. He is ahead in math in elementary school, has great social skills, and is very respectful to his teachers. I give all of this credit to HB for helping to make him a well-rounded individual. Can't wait for our second to attend.
Dominique

We were part of the Holly Brook family for 6 years. Our boys learned so many useful skills from math, reading, independence, and public speaking that set them up for success. One of the reasons we picked the school was due to how well they welcome international families and how open they are to learn about other cultures and traditions and incorporate them into their curriculum. We highly recommend this preschool, you will not regret it. - Sara
